African American Churches Eating Smart and Moving More
African American Churches Eating Smart and Moving More - Planning and Resource Guide assists churches when planning, promoting and implementing programs for health and wellness. This resource helps reduce health disparities among African-Americans in North Carolina by helping faith-based organizations increase opportunities for healthy eating and physical activity. The guide encourages community health professionals and African-American church leaders to form partnerships to work on nutrition and physical activity. The guide contains sample policies and resources that promote increasing fruits, vegetables and other healthy foods in the diet and increasing physical activity. The guide does not focus on specific chronic diseases. An advisory committee with representatives from public health, churches and universities developed the guide using lessons learned from other faith-based projects. The guide was revised in October 2010 to be downloadable and includes new resources.
