First-Ever Take a Child Outside Week to be Held September 24-30, 2007

Take a Child Outside Week is a national program that started here in North Carolina at the North Carolina Natural Sciences Museum. The program is designed to help children discover the natural world and gain a better understanding and appreciation of the environment in which they live.

During this week, parents, teachers, and other caregivers are encouraged to take children outside to explore and enjoy their surroundings. The web site, www.takeachildoutside.org, provides interesting outdoor activity ideas and a place to record activities done.

Eat Smart, Move More...North Carolina, school systems, 35 state parks, and other environmental organizations are all participating in this program.
