The Burden of Obesity in North Carolina (Adults, Children, and Youth)

Obesity continues to be a serious health concern in North Carolina. In 2006, approximately 63% of adults in North Carolina were overweight or obese, and the state had the 5th highest rate of childhood obesity in the nation. Overweight and obesity are alarming because both conditions can increase the risk for health problems, including chronic diseases.
