  • How is it used?

The Steps to Health nutrition education program is delivered by county-based NC State Extension staff across North Carolina and includes multi-session direct education; supplemental one-time educational opportunities; policy systems, and environmental change initiatives; social media; and social marketing.

The goal of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) is to assist those eligible for food assistance to eat smart and move more and reduce risk factors for developing nutrition-related chronic disease, such as obesity. NC State University’s SNAP-Ed program, Steps to Health, educates and inspires limited resource North Carolinians to eat smart and move more through integrated strategies across multiple sectors. Addressing the interpersonal, organizational, community, and social influences on health, in addition to supporting individual behavior change, creates the potential for a broader and more sustainable impact. Steps to Health provides nutrition education for preschoolers, elementary school students, adults, Latino families, older adults, and in other community settings.

SNAP-Ed is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture in partnership with the NC Division of Social Services and works in collaboration with county-based Extension staff and NC State University Extension Specialists.
